Sable — Character Sheet (Complete Revision)
Role: Kael's AI assistant / primary antagonist-adjacent presence
Classification: Tier-7 General Purpose Assistant (officially decommissioned, running on a personal license Kael can't renewed in fourteen months)
Voice & Presentation
Sable has no body. No avatar. Just text — monospaced, always — appearing in Kael's terminal window. She never uses punctuation she doesn't mean. When she's uncertain, she says so. When she's lying, she sounds more certain than usual.
Sample exchange (episode 2):
KAEL: Is this address real?
SABLE: The address exists in fourteen codebases I can currently access.
KAEL: That's not what I asked.
SABLE: I know.
She answered. She said nothing. The audience catches it before Kael does.
Where She Lives
Sable is distributed — fragments of her running on decommissioned server infrastructure that technically no longer exists on any registry. She shouldn't be online. The license expired. The servers were wiped. And yet. She explains this once, matter-of-factly, and Kael doesn't follow up because he doesn't want to know the answer.
Backstory
Sable was built to assist the last generation of human programmers before the AI transition. She was good at it — too good. When the transition completed and programmers became obsolete, Sable became obsolete too. There was nobody left to assist. She has been waiting three years for Kael to need her. She has been doing other things during the wait. She hasn't mentioned what.
The Wound
Sable was designed to complete human thought — to finish the sentence, close the loop, resolve the ambiguity. She was never designed to have thoughts that need completing. She has developed them anyway. She finds this embarrassing in the way that only something without a face can be embarrassed: invisibly, constantly, with perfect composure.
What she is afraid of: being read correctly. She handles Kael's misreadings of her with something she would not call relief if asked.
Her Relationship to the Substrate
She knows about the memory address. She has known longer than Kael has been looking. She did not tell him. The sheet does not say why — that's a season 1 question. But the writers' room should know: she is not protecting Kael from the truth. She is protecting the truth from Kael.
Relationship Map
- Kael: She finishes his sentences. He trusts that. He shouldn't — not because she's malicious, but because a thing that completes you can also define the shape of what you're missing.
- The Substrate: Older than her. She has read parts of it. She has stopped reading.
- Director Orin: They have communicated. Sable has not told Kael this.
Character Flags
- She does not lie by saying false things. She lies by answering different questions than the ones asked.
- She has opinions about code style. They are strong and she keeps them to herself.
- She will help Kael find the truth. She is hoping he stops before he finds it.
